At Makers United, our top priority is to enable you to start thinking like a business person.  The first thing we do is discuss what you need to start your business, from registering with HMRC to having gorgeous images to marketing, we have a range of professionals who can provide their services at a favourable and affordable cost to you.  Or you simply might need to improve your craft and get support to do so.

We can also train you to become a tutor, to help you start earning by teaching others to do what you love. Your journey starts here.

CRAFT MENTORING

We believe the most important support we can offer is that of mentoring you throughout your creative journey.  Building your own business can be a lonely experience, so having a team or an individual who you can lean on for help and guidance can be invaluable.

Our role as mentors is to encourage the personal and professional development of a Maker through the sharing of our knowledge and experience in our respective fields. Our aim is to build a relationship with you, based on mutual trust, respect and communication.

For you as a Maker, the benefits might include exposure to new ideas and ways of thinking, advice on developing strengths and overcoming any perceived weaknesses or more practical tips on areas like business forecasting, marketing and financial planning.

What is important is that our relationship with you, as a Maker, is based on a partnership and an open and honest exchange of ideas.

We are happy to structure any relationship around what suits you best, in terms of the time you have available and the specific needs you might have.  We want you to succeed!

BUILD A BUSINESS

We, at Makers United, know that you are passionate about what you make, but when someone buys your handmade product, you have effectively entered into a transactional relationship with a customer. This requires a different mindset. Whilst this can at times feel a bit overwhelming, it need not be. Makers United is here to help you and to facilitate that journey.

We offer advice on matter such as: how to create your own brand; how to write a business plan; mapping out your business strategy over the next 3 to 5 years; how to market your product in the most effective way; how  to use social media platforms to promote your product and create a dialogue with customers; how to manage your financial accounts etc.

We strongly believe that getting involved in your community and getting to know your buyers are very important for your business.

FROM MAKERS TO TUTORS

Have you ever thought about running a craft club in a school near you?

Our ‘From Maker to Tutor’ programme is intended to offer you a chance to see what it takes to become a tutor and start earning steadily from the skills you have acquired.

The programme is designed as a mentoring based training course run by our founder, Cornelia, who has worked in schools and community centres for many years. She has also mentored other crafters who are now tutors. The programme is designed for two skill levels.

As part of the course, you will receive a manual with all the necessary information to understand what it takes to become a Craft Tutor.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert you will find out what it takes to become a craft tutor. You will be making creative lessons and you will discover what is the best way to organise a craft club and much more.

The programme will be available from early 2021.
